7 Style Rules to Remember

AppId is over the quota

Getting dressed every morning is not the only challenge of the day. There’s what to eat for breakfast, tackling the commute and mentally preparing for the workday ahead. Remove some of the guesswork and stress about what to wear by following these 7 easy, everyday rules.

Undershirt
Always wear a v-neck undershirt with a v-neck collar shirt so the shapes complement each other. Crew necks are meant for similar shapes. Sweating is never in style, so see slide 7 for our favorite undershirt that will also keep you feeling cool.

Shirts
If you can fit more than two fingers inside the collar of your button front dress shirt, it’s too loose. Likewise, if you can barely fit two fingers, it’s too tight.

In general, if you can grab more than a handful of material on the body of the shirt, it’s too big. Ideally the shirt body should exceed no more than about 2-3 inches beyond your own.

Ties
If you don’t tie them right the first time, keep trying until the tip of your tie reaches the waist of you trousers. Anything shorter and you look like you’re wearing your 8th grade graduation tie. Longer and it’s practically a scarf.

Belt
Your shoe color should match your belt. It doesn’t have to be exact, but the tones should be similar.

Jeans
When in doubt, always opt for a straight leg style of jean. It’s a classic style that flatters most body types and will never embarrass you years from now when you look at old photos of yourself wearing them.

Shoes
Bulky, chunky soles should only be worn with casual clothes. Keep them far away from dress pants, which require a sleek sole and more classic, rounded shape.

Proportion
The width of a lapel should correspond to the width of your tie and your collar. See some Olympians who take home the gold on this rule.
